Violence occurs in families of all races, cultures, religions
and income levels. It can happen to people of any age or sexual
orientation.

average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or
boyfriends in this country every day.
· One
in four women will be physically abused or sexually assaulted by
an intimate partner during her lifetime.
· The
health-related costs of rape, physical assault, stalking,
and homicide by intimate partners exceed $5.8 billion each year.
· Approximately
40-50% of female victims are physically injured when assaulted
by their intimate partner. This accounts for over
200,000 visits to hospital emergency rooms each year.
The Effects of Domestic Violence on children include:

1000 times more likely to be abused as adults;
· Having
a rate of suicide is 6 times the national average.
